CANCELED: 455th Anniversary Founder’s Day Celebration

Due to COVID-19 concerns and restrictions on gathering large groups of people, the annual Founder’s Day Celebration scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2020 has been canceled.

Every September, the founding of the City of St. Augustine is celebrated with a Holy Mass and historical re-enactment commemorating the 1565 landing of Spain under the leadership of Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. Among them, Father Francisco López de Mendoza Grajales, celebrated the first mass on our shores on September 8, 1565 (the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary). Over the years, the celebration has become a beloved tradition for many local families and visitors near and far. We are sad to announce of it’s cancellation this year, but the health and safety of all our guests is our top priority. While the event is canceled, our grounds and facilities are still open!

Follow us on Facebook and share with us how (in lieu of the event) you will be celebrating Founder’s Day this year.
