The Confraternity of Our Lady of La Leche is a public association of the faithful established by the authority of the Bishop of St. Augustine, who living in the world and participating in the spirituality, apostolate and mission of the Catholic Church spread devotion to the nursing Mother of God – Our Lady of La Leche.
From the time that Spanish explorers established the town of St. Augustine, they brought with them a particular devotion to the Blessed Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On September 8, 1565, on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the first Mass was celebrated on these shores. Later, a special devotion to Nuestra Señora de la Leche y Buen Parto, Our Lady of the Milk and Happy Delivery began.
Since the 17th century, this particular devotion has been kept alive by countless people of faith, especially as they seek our Blessed Lady’s intercession for the blessing of their marriage, the gift of children and a safe delivery.
A new confraternity is being established in honor of Our Lady of La Leche, to help its members, living in the world, to increase knowledge and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and, in that way, to Our Lord Jesus Christ, promoting in particular the unique devotion among all people to Our Lady of La Leche and her motherhood.
