Founder’s Day 2024: 459th Anniversary Celebration

Join us on September 7 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche in St. Augustine to commemorate the 459th anniversary of Founder’s Day. This historic event celebrates the 1565 Mass of Thanksgiving and the establishment of St. Augustine, marking the birth of Christianity in America north of Mexico. The day begins with a re-enactment of the landing of Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, followed by a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Bishop Erik Pohlmeier. Experience this rich cultural heritage with family-friendly activities, including living history demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, and water bottles to enjoy the festivities!
